Mike Cameron The author was a left-handed pitcher who confesses to “throwing too many hanging curve balls” for Barrington (Illinois) High School, Northern Illinois University and several semipro teams. Mr. Cameron coached his children, Matt and Amanda, in baseball and softball and served on the youth baseball league board in Niles, Illinois—where he has lived the past 25 years. He umpires high-school games “out of his good eye.”
The players he admires most are Fred Merkle and Ernie Banks. The author believes he has paid for his sins by
rooting for the Chicago Cubs his entire life, including the last 30 years as a season ticket holder.
